Our team at Oz Education Early Learning Centres see children day in and day out. Often we meet the very active children that are outspoken and confident, and the conservative children that like to play in their own little space. All living unique, healthy and comfortable lives. The children we miss out on are the ones that are struggling to live and enjoy their childhood, the ones that are ill and cannot join us on the wonderful journey we would like to offer them.
In 2012, one of our Oz Ed families gave birth to a beautiful baby boy; at 2 weeks old he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a rare childhood cancer). He and his family were tested in many ways and struggled to cope with the medical news. It was a long, hard road for the family for 5 months when the infant was operated on and cleared of cancer. But it did not end there, 4 months later the child had relapsed and the cancer was back in three locations. The Drs had given up hope, there was not much they could do. The family not only had to deal with the emotional struggle but the finances to be able to afford the best Drs to be able to operate on such a fragile little being.
It was a journey like no other, one that cannot be explained. The Children’s hospital at Westmead worked around the clock to make sure that the family and this precious baby were as comfortable as possible. From intense chemotherapy to complete isolation from family, to bone marrow transplant and so much more….this little man, this soldier was finally cleared of cancer! The Drs called it a miracle!! Whatever it was, it worked and this family finally had a reason to smile again! He had #kickedcancersass ! Oz Education not only would like to show their support to one of their families but also to all the little soldiers out there going through their own struggle. We may not know you now, but we do want to know your story and we look forward to meeting you!
